Maria Cristina Rizzo is a lawyer, former two-term mayor of Uggiano La Chiesa (Lecce), and current president of Fondazione Le Costantine, an institution of international importance under her leadership. A woman of determination, she has always believed that women’s emancipation is inseparable from economic independence. Despite societal barriers, she pursued a law degree and has built a career marked by passion and integrity.

Since 2009, she has guided Fondazione Le Costantine in preserving traditional Salento weaving techniques and empowering women through skilled employment and education. The foundation also runs training programs for vulnerable youth, promotes sustainable biodynamic agriculture, and offers hospitality experiences rooted in authenticity and craftsmanship.

Through her vision, Rizzo continues to champion heritage, sustainability, and the transformative power of women’s work in shaping a more inclusive society.
